MAHC testified in favor of LD1082 to increase the real estate transfer tax on the portion of property sales over $1 million from $2.20 to $5 per $500; while removing the real estate transfer tax for qualified first time home buyers and their sellers. This targeted bill helps improve affordability for those who need it most scraping together their first home purchase; while increasing the tax on multi-million dollar transactions to a rate comparable with all other New England states in order to provide an ongoing source of funding for building new affordable housing in Maine for rent or purchase.
